Adobe 5 PDF hyperlinks - printing a document with web or email hyperlinks?

When I print to the Adobe PDF Writer printer driver from a Word or Excel file which contains hyperlinks in order to convert to the document to PDF format, I would like the hyperlinks to work in the finished PDF file. This isn't happening automatically. I thought it did at one point, but it's not working now. Does anyone know if there's something I can do to ensure this happens?

Thanks in advance!

Creating hyperlinks in PDFs is notoriously flaky. It all depends on what printer driver you're using to accomplish this. Some of them do fine with "naked" URLs (in other words the link text is the same as the link itself) but fail when the link text is not a URL.

The PDF writer that I use is PDF Creator Plus 3.0. It was the best one that I could find in this regard, but it still has limitations. For example, it doesn't handle links in Word headers and footers. It costs $29.95, which I thought was a decent price.

However, I've recently heard that the free OpenOffice suite (which is in most ways equivalent to MS Office) has good-to-excellent built-in PDF export in all its components. I haven't tried it myself, but that's what I've read. It's free. You may want to give it a try. One of these days I'll probably try it myself in the hope of getting rid of MS Office.
